Talking Tech @ CES: Palm Pre
USATODAY asked:
Ed Baig talks with Palm CEO Ed Colligan about the new Palm Pre and its advanced operating system.

do you define “all touchscreen” as a phone that doesnt HAVE buttons, or doesnt NEED buttons??..
Does it do video? How do you enter URL’s in landscape mode? Looks very intriguing. Guess we’ll have to wait to get all the details. Thanks for posting!
i never said iphone was the first touchscreen. and first off the lg prada was the first ALL touchscreen phone. I was saying just like the razr revolutionizied the cell phone market from bulky phones. the iphone made them step up in the OS department like in the web browsing, put a great screen, and packed a lot into one device.yes palm had a touchscreen on there phones but it also had a keyboard and palm hadnt really change theyre OS until now because the IPHONE made them. u “sheep”

Well this is already model #2 with how many updates? So is it going to take a 3rd model with another 200 dollars down.
There has been so many palm models and if iphones half of the way there then they should get there all the way quicker..
I say they half way listend to the consumer…there’s many things missing in the iPhone models that still haven ‘t been met.
Wow…seriously you just made yourself look really dumb. There are sooo many things that the pre does what iphone does, PLUS do many other things that sets it apart, like multitasking…copy and paste… You obviously don’t know what you are talking about. Watch/read more on the pre and then come back to comment…
Why do people think Apple invented multi-touch? THEY DID NOT, the gestures you see them doing and now used in other products were not made by apple!!!!
Apple make fine products but I am sick of people thinking they do it first.
Search on youtube for – “ted multi-touch” And watch the videos. That is the first real showing of the modern multi-touch concepts and they are open to everyone.
I’ve been looking at more videos and I think this phone is actually better than I thought at first. The Pre needs a video recording ability and tethering ability. Also have something like the app store, that would be great. I really don’t like the style of the phone. Looks like a kid’s toy. At least if the phone is round, make the screen round too. IDK.
Very nice video and awesome. On my website you can have access to mobile search to search any cell phone rec info and promotions. Just go to my profile to access site.
RE-Invented???
Apple invented “putting multi touch tech in their phone”, the tech itself was there decades ago
search in wiki: Multi-touch
Okay the make or break for me is going to be the keyboard. By looking at it I think the keyboard is that of the Centro or the Palm Treo Pro and I can’t get down with the soft rubber cramped feel. I have a Treo 800W and I LOVE the keyboard on it…the hard plastic. I’m going to have to feel the Pre before I can jump on the bandwagon. I do love my Palm Treo…so I wouldn’t mind an all touch screen Palm. Even if it’s not Windows based…as long as it’s not Palm OS based!
The first touch screen was not invented by Palm, its was made by HP with the HP-150. Plus Apple actually made a screen long before Palm with the Apple Newton. So stop with all this who made the first touch screen crap! Apple may not have invented the first touch screen, but they most definitely re-invented.
i am a hong kong guy, i also love it. i already had palm centro, and i also want to buy it , i want it has chinese installed
I got a Palm Centro in June when my car was broken into and my cell phone was stolen. I love it, but I cannot wait to get this phone. I love the fact that the phone has a QWERTY keyboard with the full touch screen. Fantastic.
i love this phone, if it were only available for t-mobile or unlocked…
I think it’s a matter of taste. The iPhone is thinner, has (I believe) a larger screen, and – currently – has many more apps.
However, the Pre does look pretty cool. The “inductive charger”, mail app (You’ll notice you can actually check all your inboxes at once), copy and paste, and physical keyboard are all very nice features. So, while the iPhone may not be good for you, it obviously appeals to a great number of people.
If the Pre worked on T-Mobile I would definitely consider buying it.
Are you on drugs or jest a moron? This phone has about 50% more features than iPhone has. U can change the battery, better cam, copy and paste. and MANY others.Oh, and by the way.. better UI as well.
hell yah finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sprint you finally did well the internet better be better then the instinct!!
i am sooooo glad that sprint is fianlly getting a cool phone
sooo…what’s missing?
First of all, Palm lost their chance to launch something cool like the IPhone. Even now the pre is not better than the Iphone at all. I love Palm, but this phone has to have EVERYTHING the Iphone has, PLUS more to be able to even compete with the IPhone. Which was exactly what Apple did when Blackberry and Palm were the stuff back in the day.
You guys are such sheep! You do realize that PALM invented the first touch screen phone! NOT APPLE! If anything, apple has based its entire philosephy of the IPhone one copying Palms design. Do not speak of which you do not know..
very true. its just amazing how long it has took for someone to finally create something that could actually match up to iphone. just goes to show how apple has changed things. ps not an apple fan btw u have to admit they are gd at inventing new things.
